He set the washer timer to a spin mode. Then the motor ran but the tub was not turning. The unit was making a grinding and cracking noise. He removed the front cover cabinet and pulled the motor out to find that the motor coupling was cracked. He installed a heavy duty coupling which has a metal center for long lasting use for there machine. He then snapped the motor, the pump and the cabinet back on. He then set the unit to spin and now the customer is back up and running. Here is a picture of old cracked all plastic coupling and new metal centered coupling.

    This is a very common problem among washing machines that have grown with age. It is always good to be able to understand the problem so one would know how to fix them. However, strongly advised is for one to get professional services for this purpose to assure quality work.

    We have experienced this problem with our last two washing machines. My dad tried fixing it own his own, it worked for a while but later on, the same problem happened. Professional help is preferable.
